Isabel Atienza, legal representative of Euro Mirada, visited Rome to share the latest updates on the EU-funded YW-MED project during a radio appearance on Radio RID. Atienza spoke about the project’s ongoing research phase, where participants are examining the inclusion and exclusion of LGBTQIA+ youth in their countries.
She also highlighted the upcoming workshop in Tirana, Albania from May 21st to 24th, where participants will come together to present their findings and collaborate on strategies to promote LGBTQIA+ inclusion across the Mediterranean. Can you tell us more about the current phase of the project?
Right now, the project participants are deeply involved in researching the inclusion and exclusion of LGBTQIA+ youth in their own countries. This research is crucial to understand the challenges young people from the LGBTQIA+ community face, as well as identifying cultural, legal, and social barriers that prevent their full participation in society.
What’s coming up next for the YW-MED project?
In May 2025, from May 21st to 24th, we’ll be hosting a significant workshop in Tirana, Albania, where all participants will gather to present their research findings and collaborate on creating solutions to promote inclusivity and equality for LGBTQIA+ youth across the Mediterranean. This workshop will be a cornerstone of the project’s implementation.
How is Euro Mirada involved in this project?
Euro Mirada is deeply committed to youth empowerment and social inclusion, especially for marginalised groups like LGBTQIA+ youth. Through the YW-MED project, as partners, we aim to create actionable solutions and support inclusive policies that promote human rights for LGBTQIA+ youth. It’s more than just research; it’s about taking concrete action to bring about real change.
What can we expect in the coming months?
The workshop in Tirana will mark an important milestone in our journey. With all the research and collaboration that’s been happening, we’ll be entering the next stage with a clear vision and a strong commitment to empower LGBTQIA+ youth in the Mediterranean. We’re excited to keep the momentum going, and I encourage everyone to stay tuned for future updates as we continue pushing for inclusivity and equality across the region.
